Central Catholic High School’s varsity girls’ basketball coach, Corri Stanley, has resigned from her coaching position. Stanley, a 2003 graduate of Central Catholic, has been coaching in the Lady Irish basketball program for 12 seasons. She was the head junior varsity coach under Steve Pfahler, varsity assistant under Marty McGurk, and she has held the position of head varsity coach for the last six years.
Stanley plans to concentrate on her family, along with continuing in her role as a teacher in the school’s social studies department, which she has held for 13 years. She and her husband are expecting their second child this fall.
Under Stanley’s direction, the Lady Irish varsity team won two TRAC championships and five sectional championships. She was named TRAC Coach of the Year for the 2014-2015 season and District 7 Coaches Association Division 2 Coach of the Year for 2017-2018. She has a career record of 98-43 as a head coach.
Stanley said, “I have spent the past 12 seasons coaching the Lady Irish, and the members of the program mean the world to me. If you know me well, you know how much the program means to me and you know that I poured my heart into it. The place my players and the program have in my heart can never be replaced. I am lucky to be leaving with wonderful memories that I will never forget. The thing I am most proud of in my years of coaching at CCHS are not wins or accolades, but the relationships I have built with players who I love like family. These relationships go well beyond CCHS; they are lifelong.
“I hope to find my way back to coaching when the time is right for my family. It has been an absolute honor to lead the Lady Irish basketball program, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity! Go Irish!”
Central Catholic’s Athletic Director, Greg Dempsey, said, “Central Catholic is grateful for the hard work, dedication, and success that Coach Stanley has brought to the Lady Irish basketball program. She has built an outstanding program and has been a great mentor to our student-athletes. She is Irish through and through, and we are very lucky to have her as a member of our family.”
Central Catholic’s Athletic Department is currently seeking Stanley’s coaching replacement.
