The answer is … “Reload.”
If area football followers were questioning the state of the Central Catholic football program after major losses to graduation, the Fighting Irish showed Friday night that they are definitely not in a rebuilding phase.
Just ask the visiting Springfield Blue Devils, who absorbed a 48-0 loss to the Irish in a season-opener at Gallagher Stadium.
Following a 12-1 finish to a 2018 season in which Central yielded just 47 points in 10 regular-season games, the Irish graduated 10 players who earned first team All-Three Rivers Athletic Conference honors. Thus, the rebuild-or-reload question certainly lingered since last November.
