Central Catholic Baseball Parents, Players, Supporters & Coaches,
I wanted to share with all of you some information regarding “our” program as we transition into the start of winter sports practice while still enjoying another great season of Fighting Irish Football.
Our 2019 spring schedule has now been finalized and WOW!!! It is challenging to say the least. We have always played a great non-league schedule and are doing so once again. We have Anthony Wayne who was a DI State Finalist, Defiance (State power), Bryan, Sylvania Southview, Sylvania Northview, Ottawa Hills (Regional Finalist), Cardinal Stritch, Swanton, and Wauseon. New to our schedule this season are Orchard Lake St. Marys for a DH (State Finalist in Michigan last year), Archbold (Regional Qualifier last year) and Eastwood (District finalist last year). This all compliments are always challenging TRAC schedule. You will notice a large numbers of home games at beautiful Mercy Health Field. Make plans to now to be at as many games this spring as possible to support the Fighting Irish on the diamond!
2019 Reverse Raffle
Save the Date – Saturday, May 11th will be our 24th Annual CCHS Baseball Reverse Raffle and Silent Auction! Once this has been fully approved we will begin to promote it so it can be a GRAND SLAM!
Congratulations to Anthony Lutz (’19) who has recently committed to continue both his education and baseball at Ohio Northern University. We are happy for Anthony, as well as his parents. Anthony has worked very hard in both the classroom and on baseball to get this opportunity.
City League Hall of Fame
This past Monday Joe Kruzel (class of ’84) was inducted into the Toledo City League Hall of Fame. Joe played both baseball (for Coach Briggle) and basketball (for Coach Axe) while a student-athlete at Central Catholic. In 1982 Joe was a member of the Fighting Irish State Semi-Final team. He went on to play at the University of Toledo and later served as the UT head coach. Joe is currently a minor league manager in the St. Louis Cardinal organization.
Along with Joe, we would also like to congratulate Mr. Carl Janke who was inducted for his work as both a coach and athletic director. Coach Janke is now a science teacher at Central Catholic.
Congrats to both Joe & Coach Janke!
We are very proud of the number of baseball players who played a fall sport this year. Most of our golf team was comprised of baseball players and they were led by Coach Brian Kitz who is a Fighting Irish Alumni Baseball player. We also had a good number of baseball players who played in our soccer program that advanced to the Regional Tournament for the first time in school history. We wish our football players the “Best of Luck” as they get set to play in Round 2 of the OHSAA State Playoffs on Friday as they continue what has been another incredible season. We are proud of all of our student-athletes and wish them continued success.
We realize that our current baseball e-mail list is a fraction of those out there who might like to receive our updates. If you have other family, friends, alumni or other CCHS Baseball supporters who would like to be added to our list please e-mail me back (email@example.com) with their name and e-mail address. We would be happy to add them to our current list.
Thanks for your continued help and support of Central Catholic Fighting Irish Baseball!
