August 26 – Boys soccer were in action Saturday hosting a non league game vs. Maumee Panthers. While the Irish started slow they soon picked up pace in a very even back and forth contest. The lone goal came from Maumee with just under three minutes left in the first half. Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half and the game finished 0-1 to the visiting Panthers.
August 29 – TRAC play began Tuesday night as the Clay Eagles made the trip into the city to face the boys soccer team at Gallagher Field. Last year these two teams combined for nine goals in an Irish victory and after a brief shower during warm ups the field was set. The Irish thought they had their scoring woes figured out getting on the board 12 minutes into the game when senior captain Andrew Bishop connected with fellow captain junior Mason Orians with a well timed thru ball. Mason sprung thru the defense and was able to catch the goalie off his line with a chip shot from about 35 yards out giving the Irish a much needed goal and 1-0 lead. That lead would not last long as Clay was given a questionable corner kick less than two minutes later and able to convert. The corner kick missed everyone and ended up sailing into the backside of the net untouched. That score made the game 1-1 and would hold up for the final 67 minutes of the game.
The Irish boys soccer to look to find their second win of the season in another non league contest at Lake on Saturday, September 2 at 5pm before traveling to Fremont Ross for a TRAC match up Tuesday, September 5 at 5pm.
