After winning the Three Rivers Athletic conference for the second straight year, the Lady Irish tennis team is on its way to the state tournament. On Wednesday, our team qualified five players for the state tournament in Cincinnati next weekend – a CCHS school record. Sophomore Ava McQuillin qualified in singles, and the teams of junior Maverick Delp and senior Sophia Spinazze, and freshman Ellie Hire and junior Rachel Gorman qualified in doubles. All five girls will compete in the district semifinals tomorrowmorning at Port Clinton High School at 10 a.m. The Lady Irish tennis team is also in the quarterfinals of the OTCA team state tournament. A win on Tuesday afternoon against Lexington will take the team to the DII final four for the second year in a row. Good Luck and Go Irish!

2017 Updates
As for this year, we are undefeated with wins against:
– Northview 
– Anthony Wayne 
– Southview 
– Perrysburg (4th in the state in DI last year) – Huge wins from all three singles players.
– Walsh Jesuit – McQuillin won 1st singles, S. Spinazze 3rd singles; E. Hire and R. Gorman 1st doubles, C. Bremer and L. Hoffman 2nd doubles.
– Dublin Jerome (3rd in DI state last year) – Huge wins from all three singles players.
 
TRAC league win against:
– Notre Dame Academy – big wins from McQuillin, Delp, Spinazze.
 
Tournaments won:
– Ottawa Hills Invitational (4 individual champions and team champion) – McQuillin won 1st singles, M. Delp 2nd singles, S. Spinazze 3rd singles; C. Bremer and L. Hoffman 2nd doubles.

2016 Recap:

  • 22-1 record, 7-0 TRAC
  • 1st in TRAC tournament, and won (not just in finals) 4 of the 5 flights (1,2,3 singles and 1 doubles).
  • 2016 sectional singles champion, Ava McQuillin, and sectional doubles champion (Sophia Spinazze and Maverick Delp) and runner up (Katy Mattimoe and Rachel Gorman)
  • Sent five players to 2016 district tournament and 3 (Spinazze and Delp in doubles, McQuillin in singles) to Ohio state tournament
  • Made it to the final four in the 2016 OTCA state team tournament (a first for CCHS tennis history) and placed third overall, defeating Columbus Academy for Girls in 3rd/4th playoff
