The Irish Dance Team (IDT) is part of the Spirit Program that works to promote and uphold school spirit and Irish pride. The team currently performs at all home boys basketball games, and select boys football and girls basketball games throughout the year. In addition, the team plays an integral role in the Irish community by performing at pep rallies, parades, and campus and community events.
IDT competes annually at the regional level at the Ohio State Dance Team Workshop and Competition. The team has placed in the top five the past eight years in the Hip-Hop Division, and the top 10 in the Jazz Division.
The Irish Dance Team participates in both fall and winter seasons and has one Varsity team. The team practices two to three times per week, resulting in around a four to six hour time commitment per week. Members of the team are offered physical education credit after being a member of IDT for two years.
IDT works to develop dancers into positive and confident leaders on and off the dance floor. They are taught technical and social skills in order to become successful dancers at the college level and beyond. IDT has an impressive number of alumni who have gone on to dance at the collegiate level at universities such as The Ohio State University and the University of Kentucky.
If you are interested in trying out for the team in the future there is a clinic that IDT will hold in the winter, which is the best way to gain exposure to the team. Tryouts for the team happen the Spring before the academic year begins. Tryout dates and information will be posted in March.
