With teams that have reached state championship games in three of the past four seasons, Central Catholic football coach Greg Dempsey was perhaps grasping at straws in his post-game talk, trying to re-motivate his team after a 56-13 Division III playoff victory against University School last Saturday at Huron.

Dempsey told his Fighting Irish players they had the opportunity to become the first team in school history to have a 13-0 record, if they could win their next game in this Saturday’s regional final.

The top-ranked Irish (12-0, 7-0), four-time defending champions of the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, will face unranked Lexington (9-3) of the Ohio Cardinal Conference at 7 p.m. Saturday at Tiffin Columbian’s Frost-Kalnow Stadium.
